The Beginning of the End

Okay, so here it is...

I have always been a little...well, fat. Call it what you want: chubby, rotund, thick, big ole', burly, husky...I've heard them all. I used to be fairly fit. I could run if I had to, I lifted often, was pretty strong and carried the extra pounds well.

Then I got married. That, as they say, is that. Traded in the weight room for the living room and the guy who used to get remarks like, "Dang, you are a really big guy! Don't wanna mess with you." started getting little gems like this, "Dang, you are really fat, aren't ya chubs! Don't wanna leave a burrito laying around!"

Pretty much sucked, you can imagine.

Not to be deterred, I just kept on telling myself that it wasn't all that bad. Little heavy, but still okay.

Then, one day my hands started going numb. I went to the doctor and they decided to pull my labs. Turned out that the numbness was only a pinched nerve, but the labs revealed that my Cholesterol and Triglycerides were grossly outta whack. In addition, my Blood Sugar was elevated.

I have since been able to control the first two, but have yet to better my Blood Sugar.

The breaking point came the other day when Elizabeth informed me that if I wasn't going to do something about it then she was taking out a life insurance policy on me. 'Bout as subtle as the wrong end of a horse, if you ask me, but it worked.

I tend to get mad at Liz when she tries to help...I mean, what does she know anyway...she's just a Dietitian...right? So, I am asking you guys, my friends, to help me. I need motivation that can only come from people who will be encouraging when I do well, and relentless when I don't. That being said, please feel free to "motivate" me with any words you feel necessary. Weekly, I will post my results for the previous seven days. Posts will include body weight, percent body fat, exercise and diet results. All that I'm asking of you is encouragement when I need it, and a swift kick in the pocket pair when I need it.

Way to go, Shrek! I'm still working on my "before" picture. Honestly, with the way Elizabeth cooks, I'm suprised you're not tipping the scale at 400. Keep up the good work and you may even motivate me.

Don't trust those scales that claim to test body fat... they are never acurate and hardly ever consistent.

Hey, I know Elizabeth's advice has done wonders for Meron, so you've got help in your corner when you want to listen.

That said, I'm darn impressed with this whole thing. Good luck to you. Man, you just about motivate me to push away from the computer and....

Nah, not yet.
